WTC Victims Fund

Mr. Kenneth Feinberg has been hired to serve as special master of a US government compensation fund for victims of the September 11 attacks and their families. The program was set up to serve as an alternative to lawsuits against the airlines, several of which claimed that without government relief, the Sept. 11 attacks would likely bankrupt them. The guidelines have been issued and each family of one of the WTC attack victims will receive, as a minimum, $250,000. One of the conditions of the payout's determination is that the victims life insurance, etc. value will be deducted from the final payout to each victim's family.

Some of the victims families are now complaining about the payout formula and that they would receive less than what other victim's families receive.

Let's get real here. None of the victim's families are entitled to ANY compensation from the federal government. The payouts offered through the US government compensation fund are to ease the families financial burden and save them from what would be lengthy trials to recover money from parties eventually deemed to be responsible (airlines, etc.). I believe the complaining families are "looking a gift horse in the mouth" and they certainly come off as being greedy. Had their loved ones died in a simple car crash, they more than likely would only get the insurance on their loved one's life and not much else. To see them complain about something which is more akin to a gift to help ease their financial burdens certainly turns my stomach.
