The US China Standoff
The Chinese government has backed itself into a corner and is now trying to
get the US government to agree to "apologize" and get it off the hook. Its
practice of 'buzzing" US reconnaisance planes operating in international air
space in an attempt to get the US to stop the flights was pushed too far and as a result, one of its planes has crashed in the South China Sea and one of its
pilots is missing and presumed dead. A crippled Chinese government is trying to bolster its standing with its own population and has left itself with little recourse but to depend on the US to save it from itself.
The Chinese government cannot admit to its own people that it was the cause of one of its pilots dying and that it foolishly had its pilots play
a game of chicken with a lumberingly-slow US aircraft.
The current Chinese leadership is so desparate to stay in power it will do and try anything prove it is capable of running the country, even if it means holding a group of 24 American Navy personnel as bargaining chips to get an apology and save face with their own people.
And a final note - the Chinese government has declared:
1 - The American crew needs to stay in China as part of an
investigation.
2 - The Americans were at fault.
Why is the investigation necessary if the authorities have already
concluded who they believe was at fault before the investigation has begun?!?
Send the crew home..... and the plane!
