The NRA

The National Rifle Association bills itself as the protector of the 2nd amendment. I wonder if any of its members has take the time to carefully read the amendment they hold so dearly. They seem to overlook part of the conditions of the right to bear arms and I ignore the phrase "as part of an organized militia". The intent of the second amendment was that many areas of the early United States were small towns and settlements. Since there was no police force, the intent was to allow the settlers to, as a group, defend themselves as needed. I've yet to hear from the leadership of the NRA explain what "organized militia" they consider themselves to be part of and what town or settlement are they protecting.

The text of the second amendment -

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
And that is the text of our second amendment to the United States Constitution.
