The Media and the Anniversary

The first anniversary of the terrorists' attack of September 11th 2001 is upon us and the media (television and print) is ready to replay the events of that day. Most of the media see September 11, 2002 as a day to use their film footage of 9/11/01 to remind us of what happened that day.

Some may even make part or all of their 9/11 anniversary coverage commercial free similar to the days following the 9/11 attacks. But is presenting all this coverage, even commercial free, really necessary? Wouldn't a simple, short remembrance be enough. For many, 9/11 is a day we will not soon forget. We don't need a 24-hour presentation on virtually every cable channel to remind us of what happened that day. For those who lost family and friends, the last thing most of them need to is have the events replayed as if they are happening again. It will take years for many to come to grip with their loss and to relive these events everywhere they look, will only make the healing harder.

Television and the print media should instead scale back they 9/11 coverage. We need no reminders of the death and destruction of 9/11/01.
