Racism & Intolerance

The pervasiveness of racism and intolerance is not inherent within ourselves, but a process of handing these characteristics down from parent to child. This 'legacy' is what perpetuates these unacceptable features of the american landscape. No child is born to be a racist, no child is born to be intolerant of others, this is taught to him/her by others who are passing on what they've have been taught by their peers and elders.

This is not an excuse for continuing a life of racism and intolerance, because as we grow older (and I would hope wiser) we should all begin to re-examine these issues and gain a clearer perspective. To understand that there is no real basis for these views.

This cycle from parent to child must be broken, otherwise we are all doomed to live in a society where no one is really free or has the opportunity to achieve what they truly are capable of.
