NASA spending
It seems NASA has spent approximatelly $1 billion dollars trying to design a replacement for the current space shuttle and after spending all this taxpayer cash, has decided to drop the project. One billion dollars! It appears obvious the agency doesn't know what it's doing if it takes one billion dollars to figure out that a design won't work. Hasn't anyone in authority heard of computer simulations. Even buying a couple of super computer would have been a bargain compared to one billion dollars. Someone at NASA must think the public's coffers are limitless.
Whoever thought this was the way to operate was probably the same peson who thought skipping checking the Hubble telescope's mirror curvature was a good idea. Remember how space shuttle astronauts had to bring the Hubble a pair of 'bifocals' so that it could see!
It's obvious the companies NASA hires aren't going to tell them to quit because something won't work. Why would they want to gore a cash cow.
NASA needs an independent oversight committee made up of experienced engineers to let them know when their going wrong and before such enormous expenditures are wasted.
