Ralph Nader Candidacy
Ralph Nader's candidacy is obviously not being taken seriously by the
American public. Even Nader himself admitted that he does not expect to win
the presidency. The fact that his supporters were outside the U MASS campus
on October 3rd demonstrating over the fact that he was not included in the
presidential debate indicates that they have not a clue how out of the
mainstream they and their candidate are.
Nader has few if any
credentials to be president as his 3% showing in the polls indicates. Nader
may have salient points to make about environmental policy and his
supporters should concentrate on getting that message out.
As for his
inclusion in the debates, the polls indicate what the American public thinks of his being included, it would only detract from the necessary
discussions between the only two candidates with a serious opportunity to
win in November, and the debates should concentrate on their views on the
issues and leave the sideshow outside.
