Hollywood's Self Absorption

Hollywood's so-called elite called a press conference to announce their opposition to any attack on Iraq for having weapons of mass destruction. Here's a press conference that would have been avoided by all the press if it were not for the fact that so-called "movie stars" would be there. Why is it that they believe their infinite wisdom is what Americans need in order to decide if the US' current policy on Iraq is OK. Martin Sheen when asked if it were possible that his opinion might prove to be incorrect in the future replied "..I can't be wrong..". So much for a sense of humility. I guess since he plays a president on TV he feels himself extremely knowledgeable in world affairs.

The way Hollywood plays on its celebrity status to gets the cameras rolling for any cause in annoying. We are getting advice from individuals who can't even make a personal decision such to get married or divorced right. Lately one 'couple' has filed for divorce 4 months after getting married! Their opinion are, in fact, no more valid than that of any other person walking down main street, but the average person doesn't have "star status" to get attention.

What has been overlooked in all of this discussion is that if confronting Saddam Hussein is postponed for too long, any military battle could well have to be fought with nuclear weapons instead of conventional weapons. Would waiting until Hussein has and can deliver nuclear weapons in the region be a better alternative? I think not. A confrontation, through the United Nations, is necessary and necessary now. Waiting only will open a Pandora's box that is better left closed.
