Budget Surpluses

After years of spending in the red, the government has finally managed to come up with not only a balanced budget without using smoke and mirrors, but a budget surplus. Some feel the surplus or a major part of it, should be use to provide a tax cut. The rationale goes that if taxpayers are paying more in taxes than is needed to run the government, they should get part or all of it back. I strongly disagree. For years taxpayers paid considerably less than what was necessary for the government to pay its bills and the average taxpayer was getting a break. Now it time to make up the difference and a tax break today just isn't in the cards as I see it. Let's pay off the national debt, then we can talk about tax breaks.
