Barack Obama's Health Care Reform Plan

It is Labor Day and Barack Obama continues to push his health care reform plan to get the US Congress to pass it before the end of the year. He insists that a health care reform with a possible public option is necessary and he will not stop demanding Congress pass a plan before the mid-term elections.

The fact of the matter is, Barack Obama does not have a health care reform plan. He passed that project on to the US Congress, and as expected, several committees in the House and Senate have been crafting their own plans. Obama has talked about some of the features the health plan should have, but has not generated a list of required features. Unlike previous presidents who have had their staff create a plan the administration wants, he has left the Congress to meander around trying to patch together a plan that may or may not meet his vague requirements. A recipe for disaster if I ever saw one. This is what America gets for electing a newbie as President with no previous administrative experience - unless you count being a neighborhood organizer - which I do not. If and when a health bill crosses his desk, then he will check it out and see if it meets his objectives.

If Barack Obama truly wanted a health care reform bill by the end of his first year in office, he should have had his staff craft either the entire reform bill or a list of requirements he wanted the reform bill to have. Instead he handed the job to the US Congress known for rarely getting anything done and with many divergent agendas. Whether he gets an acceptable health care reform bill that he feels comfortable in signing before the end of the year will be based on luck, not Presidential Stewardship.
