WW II Memorial

The Congress has passed and the President has signed a bill moving forward the building of a World War II Memorial. Sixty years after its end, no can can argue against a memorial to those who fought and died in World War II. What many can argue against is that the memorial's size and placement.

A seven acre memorial will overwhelm anything else nearby. The designers should have taken their inspiration from the VietNam Veterans Memorial, understated but powerful in its execution and impact. The placement of the memorial on the Mall will also destroy the view that many Americans have come to associate with the Martin Luther King speech of the early 1960's.

Can the Washington DC area be that overbuilt that this is the only spot available for this memorial? The veterans pushing through this memorial should stop and think of the legacy they are 'building' and choose a smaller and more fittingly-designed memorial to World War II's veterans.
