Never Trust What You See

Recently the ABC television network aired a 'docudrama' about the years before the attack of September 11, 2001. There were many news stories about former administration officials who felt that they had not been portrayed accurately in the mini-series. Some called for ABC to abandon telecasting the series. ABC broadcast it anyway.

For those of you who have not read my dissertation about the movie "Brian's Song", I will reiterate. Never, ever, ever believe anything you see in either a made for TV movie, or one showing at your local multi-plex. Producers, directors and writers of these so-called docudramas, have never found a person, persons or an event that was interesting or exciting enough on its own. They always feel the need to embellish the story no matter how untrue their embellishments are. And when someone complains about their accuracy of the person's life or events, the casually point to the disclaimer posted at the beginning or end of the film. A film notice such as "Based of the best selling book" should be a dead giveaway that you won't see the real truth. Also, a film notice such as "Based on extensive interviews" should also be a dead giveaway.

Personally, I almost never watch any film that purports to be the true story of an event. And if I am inclined to watch one, I view it as if it was fiction, because more than likely it is.
