Conspiracy Theories and Their Proponents
There are many conspiracy theories out there from the US never having sent astronauts to the moon, to the World Trade Towers in New York being brought down, not by airliners crashed into them, but by controlled demolition. It seems the more outlandish the claims, the better the proponents like them. It matters naught that scientific examination of the claims show them to be faulty, the proponents keep repeating them to anyone who will listen.
One thing that seems to connect the proponents of conspiracy theories is that most of the proponents have no formal training in the area that they claim to be experts. All of the explanations of their theories are prefaced by "anyone rational person could tell that", etc. etc. The World Trade Center Towers falling by controlled demolition doesn't make sense if you've ever watched a Discovery Channel program of an actual building demolition taking place, but that doesn't stop the theory from continuing to live on.
One other thing conspiracy theorists have in common is being primarily loners with few friends. Living a life of quiet desperation. Their theories being the only bright spot in their lives. That's probably why they cling to their theories even after scientific analysis has blown holes them. Their theories give them a sense of importance that their lives can't.
